The Sun Valley ski season started with opening day on Bald Mountain. The Thanksgiving Day opening brought out all the local skiers and skiers from around the region. Being back on Baldy and resting in River Run Lodge gave opportunity to see winter friends who we haven’t seen since April.
Here at the Ski and Heritage Museums, we look forward to more of the same winter excitement off the slopes. We are now reopen with our regular hours and hope to see old friends and meet some new visitors to our wonderful valley. Bring those sore legs in after your apres-ski and learn more about our rich local ski heritage and the pioneer spirit that makes Sun Valley so special.
Come help us kickoff the 2013 Wagon Days with a great party honoring this year’s Grand Marshal Bud Purdy. There will be food and drink provided by KSVHS and some great live music.

Hemingway Birthday Party Monday July 22nd, 1 to 2 pm.
The Ski and Heritage Museum is pleased to announce a birthday party for Ernest Hemingway this Monday, July 22nd, 2013 in the Heritage Museum. The museum will be serving free cake and lemonade while visitors can tour the museums and learn about Hemingway’s rich heritage in the Wood River Valley.
The museum has established a permanent exhibit on Hemingway in Idaho that both reflects Hemingway’s time here and his legacy in the Wood River Valley. Our collection of Hemingway photographs, educational text, and a film about his time in Ketchum are a central piece of this exhibit.
Please stop by the museum, have a piece of cake and learn about the new Hemingway exhibit. For questions regarding the new exhibit or Hemingway’s birthday, please contact the museum at 208-726-8118.
The Ketchum Sun Valley Historical Society’s Ski and Heritage Museum is pleased to host an open house featuring an exhibit on skiing the Pioneer Mountain backcountry following the routes first set by early Sun Valley ski instructors in the 1940’s. Drawing from 10th Mountain Division experience, Florian Haemmerle was one instructor who mapped out many backcountry skiing routes in the local mountains. Recently, local skier Zach Crist turned friends Kitt and Cody Doucette on to these historical routes while planning a trek for a magazine article. With research assisted by KSHVS and the Sun Valley Ski Club, the Doucettes, Crist, and other local skiers followed routes set by Haemmerle around the existing Pioneer Cabin. The current exhibit includes photographs from the recent trip with a history of the 10th Mountain Division and Florian Haemmerle. Come join us at the Ski and Heritage Museum, located in the Ketchum Forest Service Park on First Street and Washington, this Friday, March 15th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm for an open house highlighting this skiing adventure. The event is free of charge with donations accepted. Refreshments will be served and several of the skiers involved in the project will be present to answer questions.
